The Program of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy
Information for Applicants, for the academic year 2017-2018 - New
The Department of Psychology includes a program for certificate studies in psychanalytic psychotherapy in two tracks of study:
1. A track for adults, children, and youth therapists. It includes topics related to dynamic psychotherapy in the adults, children, and youth populations.
The track is designed for psychotherapy professionals who are:
Clinical psychologist (including clinical psychology of the child or clinical educational psychology) who acquired an experience in individual psychotherapy for at least one year after they finished their studies, and who work in a known clinical therapeutic framework. (E.g., hospital, clinic, station). Psychologists who have not yet gotten M.A. degree, have to send a document for submitting M.A. thesis proposal.
Social workers with M.A. degree in a therapeutic discipline, who acquired an experience in individual psychotherapy for at least three years after they finished their studies and who work today in a known clinical therapeutic framework (e.g., hospital, clinic, station).
Psychiatrists, during or after specialization, and who acquired an experience in individual psychotherapy for at least two years after they finished their studies, and who work in a known therapeutic framework (e.g., hospital, clinic, station).
Art therapists with M.A. degree, and acquired an experience in individual psychotherapy for at least three years after they finished their studies, and work with adults in a known clinical therapeutic framework.
Psychologists with M.A. degree in the following disciplines: medical, rehabilitation, educational, and developmental, and who acquired an experience in dynamic-individual psychotherapy with adults for at least two years after they finished their studies and work in a known therapeutic framework (hospital, clinic, station).
Applicants from other psychotherapy schools who want to study in the psychoanalytic psychotherapy program in the Department of Psychology in the University of Haifa, their application will be considered according to the criteria set by the program. Requests for the recognition of courses that have already been taken by the student will be individually discussed by a teaching committee.

2. A Track for children and youth therapists which centers on therapy and prevention in infancy, childhood, and youth with accentuating psychodynamic developmental theories and dyadic therapy.
The track is designed for psychotherapy professionals who are:
Psychologists with M.A. degree in clinical, educational, developmental, rehabilitation, or medical psychology or specializing in the mentioned disciplines and who have acquired an experience for at least two years in a therapeutic work with infants/ children/ young people, and whose work was guided by a psychodynamic training.
Social workers with M.A. degree in a therapeutic discipline, who have acquired an experience for at least two years in working with infants/ children/ young people, and whose work was guided by a psychodynamic training.
Psychiatrists, during or after specialization, who have acquired an experience for two years in a therapeutic work with infants/ children/ young people, and whose work was guided by a psychodynamic training.
Expression therapists, with M.A. degree in a therapeutic discipline, who have acquired an experience for three years in a therapeutic work with infants/ children/ young people, and whose work was guided by a psychodynamic training.
Applicants from other psychotherapy schools who want to study in the psychoanalytic psychotherapy program in the Department of Psychology in the University of Haifa, their application will be considered according to the criteria set by the program. The Structure of the Studies
The duration of the studies in the two tracks is three years. The program of the studies is totaling seven hours a week and includes four theoretical seminars all along the semester, two hours of group training all along the year and an hour of individual training all along the year with one of the program instructors living in Haifa and in other places within the country. The studies are condensed to Wednesdays between the hours: 14:15-19:30 and take place in Ha-Namal campus, 65 Ha-Namal St. in Haifa. Near the train station!
