Professor Simon Shimshon Rubin, founder and director of the International Center for the Study of Loss, Bereavement and Human Resilience and Professor Emeritus at the University of Haifa, received an award honoring his many years of academic and clinical work. The award was given to Professor Rubin for his “unique contributions to the field of bereavement in the domains of psychotherapy, theory and research” at the 2019 3 rd International Conference on Loss, Bereavement and Human Resilience in Israeli society and the World: Facts, Insights and Implications, held in Eilat January 13-17, 2019. The conference is held every 3 years, and Shimshon is one of the founders and the chairperson of the conference since its inception. Over 500 attendees came from Israel, North America, Europe and Japan with many attending the preconference 2 day workshop as well as the full 2 and a half day conference. The program had both English and Hebrew language tracks which afforded attendees the opportunities to present and participate in a dazzling array of plenary lectures, paper sessions, symposiums and workshops. Attendees represented the full gamut of academic researchers, direct providers of psychotherapy and other services, government and Non-governmental agencies, and the bereaved themselves. Members of the university’s own International Center for the Study of Loss, Bereavement and Human Resilience filled central roles in the conference organization and presentation of innovative research and intervention. Professors Rubin, Ruth Malkinson, and Eliezer Witztum, gave a plenary session in Hebrew and again in English titled “More than 120 Years of Clinical Experience with Loss and Bereavement” that summarized their joint work over the many years of their productive partnership.
